What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment that uses clear, removable aligners to gradually move your teeth into the desired position. Each set of aligners are custom-made for your teeth and designed to apply gentle, constant pressure to shift them into place.

Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign aligners are made of smooth, comfortable plastic that is virtually invisible when worn.

Frequently Asked Questions

Fixed braces are orthodontic appliances used to correct misaligned or crooked teeth. They consist of brackets that are bonded to the teeth and connected by arch wires, which are adjusted periodically to guide the teeth into their correct positions.

Fixed braces apply gentle and continuous pressure on the teeth, encouraging them to shift gradually into their desired alignment. The archwires are adjusted by your orthodontist at regular visits to ensure steady progress throughout the treatment.

Fixed braces are effective in addressing a wide range of dental issues, including overcrowded teeth, gaps between teeth, overbites, overjets, crossbites, and other misalignment problems.

You may experience some discomfort or soreness when the braces are first applied or after adjustments. This is normal as your teeth adjust to the pressure. Over-the-counter pain relievers can help alleviate any discomfort.

The duration of treatment with fixed braces varies based on the severity of your orthodontic issues. On average, treatment can last anywhere from 18-24 months. Your orthodontist will provide a more accurate estimate after evaluating your specific case.

While wearing fixed braces, you should avoid sticky, hard, and chewy foods that may damage the brackets or wires. It’s best to stick to soft and non-sticky foods during the treatment period.

Oral hygiene is crucial during your treatment with fixed braces. Brush your teeth after every meal or snack, and use a floss threader or orthodontic floss to clean between the teeth and around the brackets and wires.

You can still participate in sports and play musical instruments while wearing fixed braces. However, it’s advisable to wear a mouthguard during some physical activities to protect your braces and mouth.

It’s best to avoid habits like nail-biting, chewing on pens or ice, and opening packaging with your teeth, as these activities can damage your braces.

After your fixed braces are removed, your orthodontist will provide you with a retainer to help maintain the alignment of your newly straightened teeth.

HOW TO GET AN INVISALIGN® SMILE MAKEOVER

How does Invisalign work?

When you choose Invisalign treatment, our team will first determine if you are a good candidate for the treatment. If Invisalign is right for you, we will take a 3D digital scan of your teeth using an iTero element scanner. These scans will be used to create a virtual treatment plan that shows the predicted movement of your teeth over the course of the treatment.

Using a sequence of clear plastic trays called aligners, Invisalign® treatment gradually moves your teeth into alignment, creating beautifully straight teeth. You’ll need to wear each aligner 20-22 hours per day for 1–2 weeks before moving on to the following aligner in the sequence.

Since the aligners are removable, you can eat and drink whatever you want during treatment. This means you can enjoy all your favourite foods throughout your treatment while keeping your teeth clean and healthy for a fantastic outcome.
